This element is facilitated by vanadium. It is also a source of carbide. Carbide is a mixture of carbon and other materials such as vanadium, chromium, molybdenum, and nickel, and contact between these materials can only occur after prolonged exposure to extremely high temperatures.


Knives with high carbide content are faster than knives with less carbide content. Accelerating the rough carbide can destroy the carbide instead of accelerating it. This will give you (small) lumps on the tip, which is not the case with small pressed carbides.

In addition, the combination of vanadium, chromium, and molybdenum also makes the steel resistant to wear and corrosion, so AUS-10 knives do not rust and do not need to be sharpened repeatedly.
